Gems from My mother's Journal

Ps. 59:12a~The sin of their mouth is the word of their lips. Too often this is my case. But David goes on to say: v.16a~But I will sing of Thy strength, and will sing aloud of Thy righteousness in the morning~v.17~I will sing to Thee, O my strength~And I thought-'This is my answer~sing when you are tempted to sin with your lips.' But you can't do that when you are talking to someone.

We may be in a bad situation as the Jewish exiles were, because of our choices, not because of God's. Even so, we need to make the most of that situation, pray for it and those also involved just as the Lord told Jeremiah to tell the exiles in Jer.29:5-7~Build houses~plant gardens~bear sons and daughters~seek the welfare of the city~pray to the Lord for its welfare, etc. Then this beautiful statement to a fallen people. v.11~For I know the thoughts I think concerning you,~~, thoughts of peace and not of hurt, to give you a future and a hope.

Freeman's Archives~Take Eleven

I found more!!!

"Were you at the baby bathtub?"
(I was at a baby shower.)

"Where's Jesus?" Freeman asked. There wasn't room in his crib.
Me-"He's right here and here and on top of you. He's God. He's everywhere."
Freeman-"Where's God?"
Me-"He's in Heaven."
Freeman~"He's with the sheep. He's the shepherd with the stick."

Freeman picked up the Valentine card that Reuben gave to me. He said, "This says, 'To Lord. Amen.'"

Wendy was in the nursery. She asked Freeman,"Are you cold?" Freeman said,"I'm Freeman Hertzler."

Me-What shall I make for supper?
Freeman, with twinkle in his eye~"WORMS!"

Freeman prayed today for a baby sister Andrew. (He's about 3 1/2) (I was pregnant with Philip.)

Freeman gave me an imaginary toy zebra which I held and then "placed" on the floor. After awhile, I stepped on the carpet where I had put the zebra. "Don't step on it! ", he yelled. Grandma D. is having fun telling that story.

Book Report~1,11 Corinthians

It feels good to catch up on some book reports. I found it hard to write them.

1&11Corinthians were written by Paul around A.D.55-56.
1 Cor. deals more with doctrine and church issues and 11 Cor. is more about Christ's ministry through our weakness.
Paul established the Corinthian church around A.D.50-51. He spent about 18 months in Corinth on his second missionary journey and continued to write to them and care for them even after he left them. He wrote the first letter to address some problems that he caught wind of.
Corinth was an important city as far as trade goes. It controlled much of the shipping between the East and the West.
A note from my Bible says," The city was infamous for its sensuality and sacred prostitution. Even its name became a notorious proverb: "to Corinthianize" meant to practice prostitution."
The same spirit that was in the city showed up in the church and Paul helped them to establish a better way.
1 Cor.13 contains the "famous" words on love. "Love suffers long, and is kind..."

11 Cor. holds many of the scriptures we quote in Christendom.

"All the promises of God are 'yes' and 'Amen.
"Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph..."
"..where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."
"Even though the outward man is perishing, the inward man is being renewed day by day."
"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ..."
"Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature..."
"Godly sorrow produces repentance..."
"For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal.."
"..comparing themselves among themselves are not wise..."
"My grace is sufficient for you..."
"Greet one another with a holy kiss..."( I haven't heard that one for awhile. They used to do that in the church I grew up in. I remember men kissing each other. I'm not sure if they do that anymore. :)
