Mon. -Labor Day. Lots of work going on at the farm. Went with Karen to get a bushel of peaches for $14, a basket of apples for 5.50, and a peck of pears for $4 at Phares Martin's. Uncle Wes and Aunt Elsie stopped in to visit Mom and Dad. Jonathan, Karen, Anne, and David came to visit in the afternoon. The OT was here and said that Dad was doing really well. Dad is painfree without pain meds. It's a miracle. We watched St. Francis of Assissi in the eve. I texted my family to let them know that dad was painfree. I read to him their comments. Phil-'That is blessed.' Freeman-'Praise God'. Philip-'Excellent'. Michael-'That's great to hear!' Susan-'Thank you Jesus.'
Tues.-Woke up and hear Mom singing upstairs and Dad singing downstairs. I don't think they could hear each other. Mom went to Shady and the chiropractor and I stayed with Dad. Jonathan came to play and we drove tractors around on the woven wool rug. I made some charts for dad so he could check off his exercises, etc. The PT-Howard came. He told the story about a woman client. He asked to see her maneuver her way in and out of the shower. She asked,"Are you going to give me a shower?!" He said, "You have a better chance at seeing God than in having me give you a shower." After another wonderful lunch I went to see Dave and Elva Burkholder, then to Reuzit where I got some Coke glasses for Philip and some videos for Dad, then to BB's, where I stocked up on gum, mayonnaise, and breakfast bars for Nathan. I froze 5 bags of peaches before supper. Paul and Linda came in the eve and stayed for two hours. It was nice to catch up with them. I loved hearing about their kids and grandbaby. Linda will be teaching Jonathan in pre-school this year. I envy them both a little bit. Got to bed soon after 9:30. I put the fruit out in the car first and opened the windows to cool them down. It was 91 degrees today.
Wed.-Said good-byes to Debra, Mom, Dad, Jonathan, Joe, and Karen. Hit the road by 8:15 and after a long sleepy drive, got home around 5:30. I drank coffee, coke, and Snapple, took a nap at a rest stop, and stopped at a Cracker Barrel to shop in the gift shop, all in an effort to stay awake. Drove through a wild rain storm near Appomattox. Unpacked the car in shifts between downpours. Caught up with Susan when she got home. That was nice.
Thurs.-Another catch-up day. Washed. Sorted through small bags of stuff I always take with me. Froze all the peaches. Made a big batch of Calico baked beans. Saw Alli, Freeman, and Nathan for a short time. She bought me groceries while she was out. Nathan grew up while I was gone. That haircut turned him from a baby into a little man. Jessica and I told Phil and Michael about their birthday gift of flight. They were going to do it this Sat. but Michael's ears have been bothering him. He was so glad we told him now because he wouldn't be able to fly without brushing up on the single engine, plus the weather was iffy, and his ears were too congested to make the flight. Now they can pick a time to go when things are more ready.
Fri.-Happy Birthday Dear Philip! So quick to be born, so quick to love, so quick to learn/ How thankful I am. Went to the chiro. this morning. Alli and Nathan came over for a visit. She cut up cabbage and potatoes for me. I took N on gator rides and he kept looking up and me and smiling. I think he was so glad we were back together again doing our thing. Then he'd snuggle in and let me kiss him over and over. We had the best time. I made a chocolate cake, baked potato salad, and cole slaw. Did some wash. Cleaned the bathrooms. Dusted the house.
Sat.-Vacuumed the house, washed floors, did some wash, cleaned the outside fridge a little, plugged in the baked beans, and watched the weather report. We are having a surprise party for Michael in less than two hours. He's been in the house a lot and I am so glad I made the food and got it over to the fridge in the mancave yesterday. Jessica is coming soon. He asked if it was okay for her to come and I hesitated and I said that I think it would be all right. All a part of my act. I'm starting to understand why I don't do surprise parties. I feel like I am keeping secrets from someone, or lying, or acting a lie. I think he is completely clueless. If you read this before 3:30, please do not let him know.
We succeeded in surprising Michael. Philip invited him and Jess over to eat leftovers from the party the guys had for Philip last eve. and to watch a Monk. Soon after they left, Jordan showed up. Then Tommy T. and Chace. They brought food and the can Frisbee game and started the fire. Alli, Freeman, Nathan, and Phil came and I sent a picture over to Philip letting him know we were ready. Michael thought it was strange when they wanted to leave in the middle of Monk and come help me with something. We surprised him, though, and had a lovely evening of talking around the fire, playing volleyball, and the Frisbee game. Erin West came too, right before Michael and Jessica got there. We had hot dogs, baked potato salad, cole slaw, homemade baked beans, Tommy's chocolate Espresso cake, and s'mores. It was a lovely evening.
Sun.-Went to church and helped greet at the front door while Phil went to SS. Pastor Bill spoke on goodness. It was good. Sara wasn't there and I missed her. Came home and rested and then the family got together for Philip's birthday party. He wanted pizza and Chocolate Marvel Cake and Snicker's Ice Cream. They watched the Third Hobbit movie and I took Nathan and Alli for a gator ride. We wrapped up in blankets. Nathan was cuddly again, when I was with him by himself. He looked up and smiled and let me kiss him over and over again. Janelle called in the eve. She had stepped in a hive of yellow jackets and they were all over her but she got stung only 5 times-once in the head. I came over and she had big red spots with welts. Her head hurt the worse. I took Michael's lavender and purify oils. She had put baking soda mixture on and that relief was wearing off. Then we put the oils on after she washed the soda off and Jeanne G. had benedryl so she took some of that and 600 mg if IBprofen. Then we put ice on the spots and she got comfortable in bed and I told Micah to call me if she was having any trouble and to call 9-1-1 if she was having trouble breathing. I told him I thought she would be okay though. She was, too. Made it safely through the night and went to teach the next day. Just itchy where stung.

Hertzler Doings~Aug. 30-Sept.6, 2015
Mon.-Busy day catching up. Went over to Lori's and got some clothes and then took a lot of them to Helen. Cleaned up back room, did a lot of communications, and made some traveling plans for Oct. Went over to HV for an hour or so and read. Gathered eggs. Watched a movie with Phil.
Tues.-Lisa took me to the dentist. He did a smaller procedure since I am still running a temp and he put me on an antibiotic that deals with bone infections. Slept the rest of the day. Woke up for a little and then slept through the night.
Wed.-Took N gator riding this morning. Susan and Phil worked on banking and purchasing her car. Michael went to the doctor and was sent home to rest. Sinus infection and ear infection. Phil isn't feeling well. Micah isn't either. Went over to Janelle's to discuss Jewelry website this afternoon. Weird thunderstorms with sun and rainbows. Philip was here for supper. Michael came in from resting. Phil working on bids all day. Susan working this eve. I made some apple crisp with the apple mixture the Hoffmans gave us. Also made a roast. Then some s'mores in the oven. Also a salad with turkey burger and soybeans, like a 7 layer salad. Walked in circles in the morn and talked with Judy for awhile. Heard that Erin got some good news. Can't wait to hear what it is exactly. 100.1
Thurs.-Left for Pa at 5:15 this morning. Stopped every hour to stretch, etc. Stopped at Cabela's and spent my points on a pretty snow print hoodie. Got to Dianes around 3:30. Went swimming while talking. Ordered in pizza and wings. Stayed up late talking. Got to see Zack.
Fri.-Coffee with Diane. Lounged around talking. She made her famous eggs with cheese and toasted rolls with jelly. Left at 12 and went to Naomi's. We went to a yard sale that supports missions. Bought a Jack Lalane juice, Lincoln Logs, and a bag of silverware for Jessica. Went to Vinoli's Restaurant and met Ashley there. Server got Ira Wagler to come over to our table to visit. I wish I had his book along for him to sign. Went back to Naomi's house and went SD in the pool in the dark. Then watched 'Safe Haven' while snacking on M'M's and chocolate milk and pretzels and molasses cookies.
Sat.-Up early to have coffee with Mabe and Naomi. Naomi left to go set up candy table at Stoltzfus's and I went over to Rosalees at 8. Abie, Karen, and Annika were there for an amazing breakfast of sticky buns, yogurt/fruit/granola parfait, and a hashbrown/sausage/egg/cheese casserole. Sat around and talked. Had more of the same for a late lunch. Left for the Zimmerman/Martin wedding at 3:30. So good to see Rosa and Bev and the girls. Beautiful wedding. Left right away to help Naomi set up the candy table, light candles, etc. One of the basket of rolls caught on fire. We scrambled to put it out and to clean up the mess it left on the bridesmaid table. Food was delicious-roast beef, chicken, green beans, gourmet mashed potatoes, salad, rolls, and all kinds of pies, wedding cake, cookies, etc. Naomi had graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate at her candy table. You could fill bags and then roast the marshmallows over a fire outside. We played corn hole too. Julie and I won. We played against Mabe and Bev. It was great fun and I was far too noisy. When it was time for the bride and groom to leave, we lined the driveway with light from sparklers. It was dark and it was pretty neat. It was especially wonderful to see Rosa's mother and father. Her mother, Anne, has had a battle with cancer and she looked great and so far she is winning.
Sun.-Had a relaxed morning at Rosalee's and got to church about an hour late. Sat between Karen and Bev. So many wonderful people came up and talked with me and I was one of the last to leave. Johnny Brynan was there. He is our missionary friend. He is taking care of his mother in the states. Hopewell was like old Hopewell. How wonderful. Had lunch with Mom and Dad. Rested and played with Jonathan in the afternoon. Karen came over too. Also, Debra and her mother, Shirley. Jonathan had said, "My heart is overflowing with love for Aunt Annette." I love him. Had a delicious supper of popcorn, watermelon, and cheese. Went to bed before 9.

Hertzler Doings~Aug. 24-30, 2015
Mon.-Made some more tea towels out of old flour sacks. They're so pretty. Erin drank coffee and contemplated job positions. Went with Kathy to BWW to meet Phil for supper. On the way, we blew out a tire. Michael came and fixed it in 10 min. We had pulled over at Noah's Last Stop. Phil ordered us a delicious burger and fries. Susan was our waitress. He left to go to a board meeting and Kathy and I took our time. Then she dropped me off at Uptown where some women from church were gathering to hang out. It was a good time. He picked me up after the meeting and we went home.
Tues.-Said good bye to Kathy this morning. Took care of N while Alli had an eye apt. He fell asleep on the gator and I snuggled with him for awhile. He slept in our bed for an hour and a half. Such a darling curly head. Then Alli took me to the dentist where I got a front tooth fixed. Then I came home and slept for awhile and then got up and brushed my teeth and slept through the night. Susan worked late. Michael and Jessica had an oils meeting and learned more about essential oils.
Wed.-Got up early and took a walk and walked backwards too. This develops another set up muscles. I worked in the old house and gardens and then came in and started working on tomatoes. Helen had brought over a 5 gallon bucket. Janelle dropped Micah off and he has been reading and creating and eating and watching Three Stooges. As soon as I am finished canning these stewed tomatoes, I am going to take him for a gator ride over to Happy Valley. A big branch fell down some time between my last visit to Kathy and going back an hour or two after she left to make sure things were okay and that she got off. I want to see what really happened and see if it's the swing tree. Susan is taking it easy here today before going to work. Truman (Phil's dad) is getting hip replacement surgery probably as I type these words. We are waiting to hear word. He did well.
Thurs.-Micah was here this morning. He watched Hidalgo while I exercised and walked with Nathan and Alli. Then I dropped him off at his house but the key was missing so I brought him back and he was here with Phil for several hours. I went to town and had lunch with Dianna, then coffee with Lisa while my car was at Bailey's. Lisa and I checked out The Red Door and The Clay Place on main street. I'm so excited to think about taking some classes at both places. We had such a nice talk with the lady at the Red Door. And the lady at the Pottery place is so nice also. After Lisa dropped me off to get my car I went to New Life to pick up some paper work and then headed to Walmart and then to Judy's for supper. She had picked up some food at the Hong Kong restaurant there at Food Lion. Her friend, Vicki, was there also. I helped Sammy Jo with her school work and wish I could teach Sammy Jo full time. She is a sharp one. Came home and Phil and Susan helped me with the groceries and Susan and I caught up and then we both headed to bed earlier than usual. She had a nice brunch with a friend. She was going to mow but it's been so hot and there's been so little rain that the grass isn't growing. This was such a great day. I felt good and had no fever!
Fri.-Had Micah here in the morning and Nathan in the eve. and I forget what else happened today since I'm writing this four days later.
Sat.-Went out to Farmville and checked out a huge yard sale (bought a wooden high chair for N for 5 bucks and some Coke bowls for Philip) went to Tractor Supply, Belk, Cato, Food Lion, Key Office, Judy's twice, Millers, and most importantly, went to Charity's baby shower at La Parota. Came home and cleaned house, did wash, and got ready for tomorrow. Phil and I watched 'The Search for Red October" which I picked up at Goodwill today.
Sun.-Church. Lunch here with most of us. Homemade rolls, meat, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, baked potato salad, red beet eggs, pickles, and watermelon. Hemmed two pairs of Jessica's pants. Had ice cream and popcorn and a movie later. Alli and Freeman joined us after N's nap. Delightful day. Unfortunately, Susan hit a deer on the way home from church. She's okay. Car is not. B put the deer out of its' misery.
