Spreading

11 Cor. 4:15~"For all things are for your sakes, that grace, having spread through the many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God."

Hebrews 12:14, 15~"Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: looking carefully, lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;..."

The 'all things' Paul was referring to were the difficulties he experienced in life. He was saying, in essence, "I am carrying around in my body, the dying of the Lord Jesus, in order to manifest the life of Jesus in my body. And I am willing to suffer for your sakes, so that grace many spread through all of you, and may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God."

If we fall short of the grace of God, it will be likely that a root of bitterness will spring up to cause and spread trouble and defile many.

The verses are somewhat opposites.

Grace that spreads vs. a shortage of grace

Grace that causes thanksgiving to abound vs.
bitterness that causes trouble and defilement to spread

So, we understand, that we must be willing to suffer for each other,
and go through the difficult times,
(His strength
being made perfect in our weakness),
so that His sufficient
grace will spread
and cause thanksgiving to abound,
and we must pursue peace with all people,
and pursue holiness, so we may see the Lord.

We must keep a careful watch on our church life with each other
and make sure that no one falls short of the grace of God.
For without the grace up God,
we will have bitterness springing up
causing all kinds of spreading trouble.

Grace leads to thanksgiving.
Lack of grace leads to a root of bitterness.

Paul had experienced the grace of Jesus.
No wonder so many of his words captured the grace of Christ.

"Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father,
and the Lord Jesus Christ..." (11 Cor. 1:2)

"The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God,
and the communion
of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen." (11 Cor. 13:14)

"But as you abound in everything-in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all diligence, and in your love for us-see that you abound in grace also." (11 Cor. 8:7)
