The spies who came back gave a true report. That was not their sin. Their sin was lack of trust in the power of God. (Deut. 9:1)God had told them,'You are going in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than you; great cities fortified to Heaven.'
What does it mean to be 'stagnant in spirit?' (Zeph. 1:12d)It is to say in our hearts, "The Lord will not do good or evil!"
Rev. 3:16-'Because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold~~"
This also represents being 'stagnant in spirit.'
Deut. 20:8-(Preparing for war)-"Let the fainthearted return to his house, so that he might not make his brother's heart melt like his heart."
Proof of what effect our attitudes have on others and ours on them.
Jer. 12:5-"If you have run with footmen and they have tired you out, then how can you compete with horses? If you fall down in a land of peace, how will you do in the thicket of Jordan?" Until we learn endurance during the small trials we will never be victorious during the large ones. Or if small temptations overtake us, woe betide us when the big ones come. Or when everything is going smoothly and discouragement and discontent set it, what will our reaction be when things become tangled and stressful?
