Gems from My Mother's Journal

It seems depression and a wish for death at times follow spiritual victories. Jonah 4:3,8 -"Death is better to me than life." v.9-"I have good reason to be angry, even unto death. 1 Kings 19:4-Elijah requested for himself that he might die~~"Oh Lord, take my life."
Jonah's preaching to Nineveh was successful.
Elijah's contest with the prophets of Baal ended in victory.
Why were they depressed?
It seems a strategy of Satan but that is not mentioned.
God deals very tenderly with both men!

Deut. 29-Several verses impressed me in this chapter.
In verse 4, there is a prayer that 'the Lord would give me a heart to know...eyes to see ....ears to hear.'
V. 18b-'Lest there be among you a root bearing poisonous fruit and wormwood.' This could be a warning either for us individually, or in a family or in a church.
V. 19b-An example of an individual who boasts. 'I have peace though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart in order to destroy the watered land with the dry.' But it doesn't work out that way for God is just.
V.21a-'Then the Lord will single him out for adversity from all the tribes of Israel.'

Jeremiah 11:15a-"What right has My Beloved in My house, when she has done many vile deeds?" And He goes on to enumerate the sins. I find my heart aching for God~still calling us 'Beloved' although so unworthy.
