Hertzler Doings-Jan. 24-31, 2010

This week's highlights:
Teaching music to children who are alive and well and who like music class. Children even more precious to me after last week's scare. I met Lisa H. at the Corner Grill in Appomattox. We had tea and coffee. They were closing early to attend the one family's funeral. They had been in to eat on Monday and were killed the next day. We went to Granny B's for lunch and then to Baines for more tea. Talking. Listening. Good, dear friend. Sitting on the leather couch. Music playing. Surrounded by books. And then the snow flurries came and the beauty of the moment made my soul nearly burst with joy.
Wed. night, falling asleep in the sanctuary and waking just in time to receive Lindsay's call and to go get Susan. Thurs., Lindsay and the girls came out and she helped me go over finances and set up a budget. So thankful. So humiliated. But we have now joined the 5-10 % of Americans who have a budget. Went over it with Phil and we came up with a plan and are still the best of friends.
Haiti-over 150,000 dead. Miracles in the midst of the rubble. Praises in the midst of hell.
Friday-made lots of food for snowed in weekend-scrapple, bear roast, mac and cheese, chili, peanut butter bars, chicken rice soup, quiche...Chace, Chad, Travis and Dan here until very late. Woke up to lots of snow. Saturday-Did some wash. Dad's birthday. All 7 of us sang happy birthday to dad for mom. Had a nice talk with Dad when he got back. 80 years old and running. Phil out plowing. Got tractor stuck on neighbors lane. Got another tractor to pull it out and the fuel line had a chunk of ice in it. Tractor shut down. Two tractors stuck and neighbors still don't know. Kitchen full of beach towels with wet boots and shoes, etc. Dan Petersheim spending the weekend with us. Philip and Dan went over to Martins. Susan, Phil, Mike and I are watching Bourne Identity. My first viewing. Made homemade potato chips in oven. So lazy. Just want to eat and watch movies. Church cancelled for tomorrow.
Sunday-Christi and Dan joined our family for church. Sang for almost 2 hours from the Hopewell worship notebook. Freeman and Phil played the guitar. Phil read from Is. 55 about God's chosen fast. Conference call with Alli to settle wedding date! Kids were playing games in afternoon. Phil and I watched War and Peace. Susan, Phil, and I were playing Dutch Blitz in eve, when Ryan Petersheim came in. He is spending the week with Philip, trapping along the river.
He is a wonderful piece of home and reminds us of our friendship with his parents.
No school tomorrow.
