Theme: The superiority of Jesus Christ over the Old Covenant
Key Words: Better, Let us
"This epistle was written to wavering Jewish believers, encouraging them to stand fast in their faith. The writer points out the overwhelming superiority of Christ over all that they had experienced under the law. What is offered to them through Christ is so much better than that which is promised under the Mosaic economy they should never consider turning back. The author dwells on the incomparable glory of the Person and work of Christ, showing His supremacy over prophets, angels, Moses, Joshua, Aaron, and the whole ritual of Judaism."
I couldn't have said it better myself.
I love this benediction recorded in chapter 13:20,21~
"Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead,
that great Shepherd of the sheep,
through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
make you complete in every good work to do His will,
working in you what is well pleasing in His sight,
through Jesus Christ,
to whom be glory forever and ever.
Amen. "
I think we should memorize all the prayers in the Bible so we can pull them out and bless people with the right one at the right time.
I can still hear my Uncle Paul's voice at the end of the service at Mellinger's Mennonite Church.
There he'd stand, so tall and handsome, with his hand of blessing outstretched.
With his melodic voice he would say, "The LORD bless you and keep you...
The LORD make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you.
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace."
(I just looked it up in Numbers 6:24-26 and I had remembered it correctly after almost 40 years.) I'd really like to hear him say it at least one more time.
