Book Report-Proverbs

Notes taken from New Spirit Filled Life Bible-NKJV

Author: Solomon, with portions by Agur and King Lemuel
Date: About 950 B.C. with portions about 720 B.C.
Theme: Universal principles for living
Key Words: Wisdom, Knowledge, Understanding, Instruction, the Fear of the Lord

Solomon was the King of Israel from 970 to 930 B.C.
He was the son of David and Bathesheba.
He took the throne when he was about twenty years of age.
Wow. That's how old Philip is.

It is thought that Solomon wrote the Songs of Solomon in his younger years,
the Proverbs, when he was more mature, and Ecclesiastes when he was more aged and cynical.

Under Solomon's reign, Israel experienced the most peaceful time in its existence.

When Freeman went to school in Pa. one of his Bible teachers had them study Proverbs topically. They looked up all the verses on wisdom and wrote them all down. Then they took another topic, like 'the fear of the Lord' and wrote all those verses down. I've been wanting to study Proverbs in the same way every since.

Some of my favorite verses from Proverbs:

Proverbs 3:3-7~
"Let not mercy and truth forsake you;
Bind them around your neck,
Write them on the tablet of your heart,
And so find favor and high esteem
in the sight of God and man.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the LORD and depart from evil.
It will be health to your flesh,
And strength to your bones."
