Book Report-1,11 Peter

Notes taken from New Spirit Filled Life Bible-NKJV

Author: Peter
Date: Early A.D. Sixties
Theme: Suffering as a Christian
Key Words: Suffer, Suffering

It is thought that Peter was writing to converted Gentiles.
He reminds those who are being rejected in the world for their faith in Christ, that one day they will have a heavenly inheritance. He reminds them about who they are in Christ and the glory that is ahead for them and encourages them to be patient in the midst of persecution.

There are many beloved verses in Peter. I have to think about the time that Jesus told Peter that he would fail Him and that 'when you have returned,' strengthen the brethren.
That strengthening continues to this day.
Without Peter's failure, there would not have been this strength.

I Pet. 1:7-"That the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ..."

1 Pet.2:23-"...who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously;..."

1 Pet. 3:8-"...be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing."

"11 Pet. 3:9-"...He is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance."
