Jude

Notes taken from New Spirit Filled Life Bible-NKJV

Author: Jude
Date: A.D. 65-80
Theme: Contending for the faith
Key Words: Contend, the faith, Keep

I never knew this before.
It is thought that Jude was the brother of James, who was the brother of Jesus and leader of the Jerusalem church.
Mark 6:3 mentions that Jude (or Judas) was the brother of Jesus. Wow!

Jude used much of his one chapter letter to warn the readers against false teachers. He describes the false teachers as being 'sensual', 'perverters of the truth', 'dreamers', 'clouds without water' and 'not having the Spirit.' He encourages the reader to maintain their faith, to trust in God's keeping power, and to rescue those who are deceived.

My favorite verses include some of the ageless church verses.
You know them.
Verses 20, 21, 24, and 25:

"But you, beloved,
building yourselves up
on your most holy faith,
praying in the Holy Spirit,
keep yourselves in the love of God,
looking for the mercy of our
Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life...

Now to Him who is able
to keep you from stumbling,
And to present you faultless
Before the presence of His glory
with exceeding joy,
To God our Savior,
Who alone is wise,
Be glory and majesty,
Dominion and power,
Both now and forever.
Amen.

It appears that our job is to keep ourselves in the love of God,
and it's God's job to keep us from falling.
