Author: Isaiah-name means "Yahweh Is Salvation"
Date written-About 700-690 B.C.
Isaiah spoke the Word of the Lord to the children of Israel. His purpose was to turn God's people away from disobedience and sin to serve the living God in order for them to escape the judgment that would come if they remained in their sin. God used other nations to punish His wayward children and when they repented, He then turned and punished the nations that had come against them. Isaiah spoke of God's redemption and desire to restore. He promised a Messiah and prophesied about future events, including the first and second coming of Christ. Seventeen chapters in Isaiah contain prophetic references to Christ.
Isaiah is my favorite Old Testament book.
I take it personally.
I think the words God spoke to His people, Israel, are also words for me.
Isaiah so aptly conveys the heart of God for His children.
If you have never read Isaiah the whole way through, you may be surprised at how many scriptures are familiar to you. It is quoted 21 times in the New Testament.
It is my personal opinion that Isaiah has a long gray beard and is very old.
I will meet him some day soon.
