Sunday Sermon~Aug. 17, 2009

This month's theme: Bigger than our location

God is bigger than our location, problems, personality, mountains, etc.

We think God is limited by our limitations
but God shows His unlimited power through our weaknesses.

God's desire to use us is only handicapped by our lack of obedience.

"Our methods should never supersede our message."

"Our relationship with God is not predicated on our goodness, but on His goodness."

Scripture-Acts 1:1-11, focus on vs. 8, "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

"Thank You for your Word. Speak to our hearts and change our lives today."

The anointing of God is not just for a Sunday; it is for the mundane tasks of life as well. The gifts and callings of God are without repentance. God does not change His mind in regards to His plan for your life.

#1-"Unto Me"- You shall be witnesses 'unto Me'...

-We think we do things for Christ. He doesn't need our money, gifts, or talents. It's all His to begin with. Doing something for God indicates He has a need. "Who's doing more for God?"becomes our question, as if we are in a competition for brownie points from Him.

"Whatever you've done, you've done it unto Me," says Jesus.
We do it as if He is standing beside us, doing it with us. When we give a glass of water to someone who needs it, He is doing it too. Unless He washes our feet, we will have no part of Him. Now we do it for others unto Him.

The Greek meaning of the word 'witness' is martyr. You will be a martyr unto me.
Most of us witness when it is convenient to witness.
The disciples were witnesses, and they also became martyrs.

(Webster defines 'unto' as 'to', and he defines 'to' as 'expressing motion or direction toward a place, person, or thing approached and reached.'

I like this. We are witnesses towards Jesus Christ. We move others in the direction of His presence by the witness of our life and words. Oh, that our non-verbal life would line up with our verbal testimony.)

#2-Unto "Me"-You will tell people with your life about Jesus.

Fire fell down on all those who waited in the upper room. Everyone of them did something with that fire because God never wastes His fire.

"3-You "Shall Be'' witnesses unto Me...

When? Right now.

Story: Pastors at a Ministerial Meeting were discussing which speaker to bring in to their community for special meetings. D.L. Moody was suggested. One young minister spoke up, "Mr. Moody doesn't have a monopoly on the Holy Spirit." "No," said an older pastor. "But the Holy Spirit has a monopoly on Him."

The believers continued in prayer and supplication in one accord, waiting for the promise of the Holy Spirit...How long did they wait? How great was their unity?

How long have we waited? How great is our unity?
