Book Report-Lamentations

Notes taken from NKJV-The New Spirit Filled Life Bible

Author: Probably Jeremiah
Date: 587 B.C.
Theme: Suffering as Punishment for Sin
Key Words: Hardship, Sorrow, Sin, Prayer

These laments seem to have been written during the time that God was punishing the Israelites for their sin against Him. Jeremiah helped God's people by giving them "the necessary expression to their grief and to comfort them in it. He also encouraged them to think about the hand of God on them in punishment and helped them to submit penitently to the judgment they deserved until it had passed. Only after the people were completely humbled would they be able to think of restoration."

I'll leave you with these verses from Lamentations 3:22-26.

"Through the LORD's mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassion's fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
"The LORD is my portion," says my soul,
"Therefore I hope in Him!"
The LORD is good to those who wait for Him,
To the soul who seeks Him.
It is good that one should hope and wait quietly
For the salvation of the LORD."
