Hertzler Doings~Mar. 12-15, 2009

Phil and Freeman made some shelves this week from the remains of the old barn that fell down earlier this year. They put them up in our living room, kitchen, and dining room. Phil now has some of his Indian artifacts, tomahawks, arrowheads, grinding stones, etc. displayed. We also put up the things he bought from his Kenyan friends in Sept. I was able to display alot of antiques and glass dishes that I bought at my dad's estate auction. It feels good to have some of our treasures out where we can look at them instead of packed away in old newspapers.

We went to L'arche's Thursday night.(Lynchburg) Phil and I were invited to attend an appreciation dinner. Ray and Ruth met us there. L'arche's is a home for mentally and physically challenged people. They actually have homes all over the world. Phil's crew framed out the second home they are opening soon next door. We got to meet people who helped run the home and also met the residents. One of the residents led in prayer and I wanted to lay my head down and weep, "Lord, teach me to pray. " Another lady sang "The Lord's Prayer," and I have never heard it sung so beautifully.
I would like to volunteer there once a month. Their goal is to live life in such a way that it reflects The Beautitudes. They treasure each resident and help them to reach their potential in Christ and use the gifts they have. Phil and I got some groceries at Kroger's on the way home. There is something about Phil pushing a cart that warms my feminine heart.

On Friday night, we went to the Davis's to celebrate Chace's 18th birthday. The house was packed. Everyone brought food. Chace's cake had some black icing on it and we saw alot of black teeth as we were getting ready to leave. Philip and Michael spent the night there and had fun playing halo and guitar hero. As the party officially started, Carleen greeted all of us and thanked us for being with them during the difficult time they are in. She blessed Chace with kind words and opened it up for others to bless him and/or tell funny stories about him. He was standing beside me and I had to resist the urge to say, "That's my boy," every time someone bragged on him. Philip came home around 2:00 in the morning because he needed to be home in the morning. Susan went home with April from the party and she enjoyed a sleepover with Amy and Macailah at the Daltons.

Susan and the other girls helped out at church on Sat. morning. They helped move things up and down stairs to help get ready for the Easter musical. Michael picked her up on the way home. We went to Kelly and Chris Leslie's wedding in the afternoon. It was a beautiful wedding and I felt God's blessing and presence there.

Philip left for Florida around 4:00 on Sunday morning. He went with Joel, Chad, and Zach. He called around 7:30 and they were almost in S. Carolina already. They are getting a motel down there and will go deep sea-fishing and have other adventures. Philip is documenting the whole thing on video tape and Chad will make DVD's. I think we could probably sell you one, but it will cost you. They'll be back next Sunday. Pray for me. I mean, pray for them.

We had a really good Sunday church service. Pastor Rob preached and at one point, he was floored, literally, and helpless with laughter. I'll try to capture his sermon in the next writing. Michael went back out to church in the evening for a student leadership meeting. Chace and Jordan came back with him. We have no school on Monday and the three of them are going over to the Loy's to work in their vineyard and make some money. Philip called in the evening and all is well.
