This weekend Cornerstone Christian Academy is moving out of Vera Church of God. We are moving to our own facility on Route 460 in Appomattox. The principal, headmistress, teachers and their families, and other motivated people have contributed financially and with sweat, blood, and tears, in order for us to have our own school ready for occupancy at this time.
I will have my own music room. Someone donated a piano and it is in tune. Now the kids will be able to dance and jump without making the lights flicker. No one will come upstairs and tell us that "we sound like a herd of elephants." We have learned alot about The Golden Rule and have quieted ourselves so that others can study.
Starting a school is like being a first generation Christian. Those who have experienced this understand the battle field involved and the ground that has to be won so future generations can build on their foundation. Most of the work being done will never have to be done again.
Today I watched a man take apart room dividers he helped build in a church basement, dismantling it bolt by bolt and shelf by shelf. His son was helping to carry out the metal parts to the moving truck. These book shelves will most likely be rebuilt in the new school and have permanent residence there to hold volumes of knowledge that could change our world. This boy knows some of the price his dad has paid to build this school. His dad is sick today and he is still working. He has been working for a very long time. The son gives blessing to his father's work because his eyes still shine with their cheerful brown brightness and his arms flex willingly to carry a load.
Now we have a building to house our school in. For school is the people. School is not the books and pencils and erasers and maps and graphs. School is the teacher patiently explaining a concept until the lights go on in a student's mind. School is the teaching and the learning, the loving and forgiving, the daily opportunity to practise getting along with others. The teacher teaches and the student learns. The student teaches and the teacher learns.
I love school.
I love this school.
I love the teachers and the students.
I love the music that we make.
